Thomas J. Connelly
President and Chief Investment Officer
 
Tom serves as President and Chief Investment Officer of Versant Capital Management, Inc. ("Versant"). As President, Tom provides leadership and strategic direction for Versant and its personnel.  As Chief Investment Officer, Tom is responsible for formulating investment policy for and supervising the management of client portfolios.  With over 27 years of experience in the financial services industry, Tom has served the complex wealth management needs of high net-worth individuals, families, corprate executives, foundations, endowments, pension and profit sharing plans, as well as other tax-exempt and institutional clients.  His speciality areas include investment planning, estate planning, and manager research and evaluation.  Tom is also the Chairman of Versant's Investment Comittee.   

Prior to forming Versant, Tom served as President and Chief Investment Officer of Keats, Connelly & Associates (1990-2004), and President of Connelly & Associates (1989-1990), where he was responsible for global market research and supervision of client portfolios. 

Tom has been recognized nine times by Worth Magazine as one of the top financial advisors in the United States.  He was selected by wealth experts and peers to the "2012 Cityweealth Leaders List, Private Bankers & Investment Managers - International for North America," and the "Citywealth Top 100 Wealth Advisers & Managers list for North America" in 2006.  Tom is a noted speaker on technical subjects to local, national, and international professional societies, including ALI-ABA, the AICPA, the FPA, and the Asia Pacific Financial Planning Conference, and has authored numerous articles for industry journals and publications.  
 
Tom is active in the community and has served in leadership roles on numerous boards and committees of civic and professional organizations.  From 2001-2003, he served on the Financial Advisor Advisory Board for TIAA-CREF, and in 2007, he was appointed to the Board of Trustees of the Arizona State Retirement System, where he has Chaired the Investment Committee since March of 2009.  Tom is a Founding Director of Biltmore Angel Group, a non-profit organization formed to invest in startups and early stage companies in the greater Phoenix area.  Biltmore Angel Group also works closely with Arizona State University ("ASU") to provide investment opportunities to ASU spin-outs and select companies for ASU's Venture Catalyst Program.  He also serves as an Adjunct Faculty Member for the Institute for Preparing Heirs. 
 
Tom previously served on the Board of the Phoenix Society of Financial Analysts, and served twice as President of the Phoenix Chapter of the Institute of Certified Financial Planners.  He was both on the Editorial Advisory Board (1994-2000) and a Contributing Editor (1996-1999) for the Journal of Financial Planning.  Tom served as an Executive Board Member for National Advisors Holdings, as well as a Financial Advisory Board Member to Rydex Funds. 
 
Tom is a CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER™ and Chartered Financial Analyst, and is a member of the Financial Planning Association and the CFA Institute.
